Keynote 1:

"Towards Inclusive Human-Centric AI for Mental Health: Co-Creating Intelligent Digital Health Assistants for Socially Disadvantaged Youth" by Dr. Caroline Figueroa

Dr. Figueroa is a medical doctor by background and an assistant professor in digital health at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, where she leads a research group on inclusive digital mental health. Dr. Figueroa focuses her research on developing, testing, and implementing personalized digital health tools to help individuals improve their wellbeing and lead healthier lives. Her emphasis is on tailoring these tools to the needs of underserved populations, such as those from ethnic minoritized backgrounds, and with lower socioeconomic positions. Among other projects, she studies mobile apps that use artificial intelligence to help individuals increase their physical activity, manage their mental health, and improve healthy eating. She currently leads a project to co-create personalized digital health assistants that leverage large language models to help adolescents with emotional and social skills. With her team she develops new methods of inclusive digital health design through a social justice and feminist intersectionality approach.

Dr Figueroa has conducted PhD research on the neuroscience of depression at the University of Amsterdam and University of Oxford, and has worked in clinical psychiatry as a liscenced medical doctor for several years.

Keynote 2:

"Human-AI coupled systems - redefining the (micro)surgical environment" by Dr. Dalibor Vasilic and Dr. Chirag Raman

Dr. Dalibor Vasilic graduated with honors from Erasmus University Rotterdam with a medical degree and completed his plastic surgery training at University Hospital Utrecht. During his time there, he successfully defended his PhD thesis on facial transplantation, specifically focusing on composite tissue allotransplantation (CTA). His work has contributed to the advancement of this field, leading to the pioneering transplantation of a human face. As a microsurgeon certified by the European Board, Dr. Vasilic established the supramicrosurgical unit at ErasmusMC, dedicated to addressing lymphedema caused by cancer. He oversees both the clinical management and research initiatives aimed at exploring and treating lymphatic system disorders related to cancer, introducing innovative (supra)microsurgical procedures for lymphedema.

Dr. Vasilic is actively involved in technological innovations and their application in the medical sector, particularly in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into surgical practices. He plays a leading role in ErasmusMC's shift towards robotic digital microscopy in microsurgery, supported by the institution's board of directors. Dr. Vasilic co-leads a case study on robotic digital microscopy as part of the Hybrid Intelligence Center, an initiative funded by the Zwaartekracht grant from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

Dr. Chirag Raman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Intelligent Systems at Delft University of Technology, where he leads the Tapri Lab, focusing on embodied social intelligence. His research centers on developing core generative AI techniques to model the low-level, multimodal dynamics of human social interactions. By creating these foundational building blocks, he aims to develop adaptive AI systems capable of continually learning from, understanding, and interpreting human interactions in context, thereby enhancing both physical and virtual human-agent interactions. Dr. Raman also co-leads a case study on developing coupled human-AI systems for robotic microsurgeries as part of the Hybrid Intelligence Center, an initiative funded by the Zwaartekracht grant from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science.

Dr. Raman obtained his doctorate cum laude from Delft University of Technology and an MS in Entertainment Technology from Carnegie Mellon University. He has extensive experience in academic and industrial research, working as an engineer, game developer, and UX researcher at institutes including Carnegie Mellon University, Microsoft Research, Disney Research, and ProductionPro. Outside of work, he enjoys biking and exploring design and storytelling.
