Multi-Modal Memory Restructuring (3MR) System
The 3MR system is designed with the intention to support trauma-focused psychotherapy that focuses on
restructuring and relearning of past events. The system supports the visualization of past events using
personal photo's, narrative text, online geographical maps, and the recreations of scene in three
dimensional virtual world.
The software that can be downloaded from this website was developed in 2012 by Delft University of
Technology BSc Computer Science students. They based their software on a prototype designed by
Mathew van den Steen, which is described in detail in:
- Brinkman, W.-P., Vermetten, E., van den Steen, M., and Neerincx,
M.A. (2011). Cognitive engineering of a military multi-modal memory restructuring system. Journal of
CyberTherapy and Rehabilitation, 4(1), 83- 99. (PDF)
Three versions of the 3MR system are available, designed to support Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD) therapy for the following areas:
- Adults with childhood sexual abuse related PTSD
- Aviation related PTSD
- War related PTSD
