Simprop charger

The Simprop charger.

There are a few problems with the Simprop Electronic Intelli-Control charger (Software V1.2).
The first is that the charger gets quite hot when discharging batteries at high power (power=volt * amps). To keep the temperature acceptable, 15W seems about the maximum. So I recommend you to keep a little below the 20W mentioned in the manual. A solution to this overheating is by inverting the air flow of the fan in the charger. It is mounted in such a way that it sucks out air from the charger, not very efficient. It is more efficient to have the fan blow into the charger. A procedure to invert the fan is described at rc-raceboats.de. However, note that this is quite some efford for only 30% gain on your discharge rate. And furthermore, a reversed fan is not very effective for cooling your power supply! (my power supply gets much hotter from delivering power at 60W than the charger heats up when discharging at 15W!).
There are also some problems with charging batteries, but probably these are not very specific for this charger so I moved them to the 'tips' pages.
Finally the discharge-only setting is a bit weird, you have to set the charge rate to 0 to discharge only. Took me a while to think of recover this! Yes it is in the manual but apparently I forgot this option ...
