The Interactive Group Installation
What is the Interactive Group Installation?
The Interactive Group Installation is a project where visitors can get in touch with Dutch history in an interactive way. The last couple of years several solutions have been realised to interactively give visitors a glimpse of history. However, not many museums have thought about the group experience.
Group experience
The setup invites groups of people to explore events from the past with a well-known historical character. To realise this, a virtual representation of the character and the monuments will be projected on the wall. Besides exploring a part of history, it is expected that everyone in the group will take an active role in answering several questions.
Interaction and detection
To apply interaction, the avatar needs to know what is happening in the room. The application, together with four mounted webcams, can detect the people on the floor and reason what the next action will be.
Three squares
The three squares will be compared and the one containing the most people will be seen as the answer of the group. The avatar can also "see" if there are people placed next to the three squares. When this is true, the avatar can and will respond to this.
Listening
Not only can the avatar "see" what is happening, he can also "listen" to the things which are said in the room. The noise is picked up by two microphones, one placed in the front of the room and the other at the back of the room.
Crowd Control
Another feature implemented in this system is 'Crowd Control'. With this other avatars in the 3D world can interact intelligently with eachother. It's also possible to let these avatars interact with the audience.
